I retired from teaching first and second grade four years ago. I've had a wonderful time, exploring my favorite arts and crafts (there are many), and traveling to art retreats. My husband, Dave, retired last May from his job teaching computer science at our local community college -College of the Redwoods. We are both loving the freedom of having "an endless summer" to share together. We also love our property of 8 acres and have lived here in Fortuna for 30 years. Our children grew up, went to college and decided that small town life was not for them. Matt and his wife, Julie, live in Chicago, Illinois, where Julie teaches anthropology at University of Chicago, and Matt is an internet technologist for Columbia College Chicago. Our daughter, Mia, her husband, Greg and our two year old granddaughter, Lindsay, live in Champaign, Illinois, where Greg is a video game producer for Volition and Mia is fortunate enough to be able to stay home and be a full time Mom. We enjoy visiting everyone in Illinois - but we love Humboldt County. Surrounded by pastures, redwood trees, and the ocean nearby - we are usually out and about, exploring and hiking the lovely northwest.
